ELEVATE takes another important step towards scalable supply chain capacity building
Launches supply chain social performance eLearning program

NEW YORK, NY (Nov. 20, 2013): ELEVATE, the new global leader in business driven supply chain sustainability services, reached an important milestone with the completion of its 40th e-learning lesson. With over 40 standard public and customized proprietary lessons in production, ELEVATE has completed the first phase of its development program aimed at helping suppliers and factories learn how to build sustainable solutions to social and environmental audits.
Retailers and brands have integrated the ELEVATE platform as part of supplier on-boarding, corrective action planning, and supplier ownership process. For the supplier on-boarding process, new suppliers are being requiring to complete selected lessons. For the corrective action process, lessons are being assigned according the number and severity of audit violations.
JCPenney is one of many retailers and brands that have implemented the ELEVATE e-learning platform to promote social compliance and sustainability in their factories.
“Our suppliers have found that the ELEVATE lessons are structured to promote supplier engagement, which is half the battle in working with factories,” said Anthony Curtis, Director of International Social and Environmental Affairs at JCPenney. “We have had over 1,425 suppliers and factories take lessons in 34 countries. The completion rate has exceeded our expectations. We believe that the convenience and accessibility of these lessons reinforce important concepts, make it easily accessible and lay the critical foundations for progress.”
The topic categories include: Recruitment, Selection and Hiring, Training, Production & Capacity Planning, Communication & Integration, Good Working Conditions, Good Management, Health & Safety, Environmental Protection and Know the Law. Starbucks is another brand that has noticed a difference in factory social compliance in as a result of the use of the e-learning lessons.
“The goal of Starbucks’ e-learning project is to establish an online training tool to benefit our 300+ suppliers and their factories for manufactured goods and agricultural products, as well as our internal sourcing partners,” said Karen Ng of Starbucks. “For the next phase, we’re using the tool to identify opportunities to embed the segmentation process into the e-learning platform and to facilitate the supplier pre-qualification and key business review. By educating suppliers before an audit, we have seen a downward trend in compliance issues.”
ELEVATE has created a series of lesson previews. This first phase is focused on foundational lessons. The next phase, scheduled to be complete by end of Q2 2014,will introduce more advanced and specialized lessons, e.g. issues in sub-contracting, working with labor brokers.
